Footsteps of Faith

Footsteps of Faith is an eight-volume curriculum that presents the Bible chronologically from Genesis to Revelation. At Believers Chapel on Wednesday nights, children in first through sixth grades take time for Bible study, gym activities, fun, teamwork, and fellowship. This year’s 16-lesson theme is, “God Provides For Us.” God continues His plan as He leaves His chosen people, Israel, out of Egypt to the Promised Land of Canaan, giving them His Word as instruction for daily living and worship. Each child will receive a “Bible Gems” booklet, containing all the memory verses to memorize for the year. The group meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM.

JOSHUA: Israel Inherits the Land

Eighty eight children joined us this year for VBS 2016. This is a significant increase from last year, for which we are thankful. We studied the life Joshua, with our key verse being Joshua 1:9 (Bible Gateway: NASB)” href=” 1:9&version=NASB” target=”_blank”>Joshua 1:9. The VBS players opened each morning with a skit to dramatize the day’s lesson, and this year many young assistants were chosen from the audience to participate in the action. There was no shortage of volunteers to help destroy the walls of Jericho, and we were all amazed when the Jordan River parted by itself right there on stage. As always, the closing program included songs which the children had learned during the week. An original adaptation of “Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho” with its jazz piano accompaniment made for lively singing. An encore presentation of “Behold What Manner of Love” was enjoyed by the congregation the following Sunday.

It is always rewarding to receive feedback from the children about what they learned. Some comments included:

“My sin will find me out.”
“I learned that I should be strong and courageous.”
“Sin and what God thinks about it.”
“I learned how God blesses those who are obedient to Him.”
“Most of all, you should always trust in the Lord, for He will never forsake us and He always will help when we need it.”
And simply put, from a first grader, “Do not sin.”

Once again, many thanks to all who participated in this wonderful time of serving. DVD’s of the closing program are available from the Media Ministry.

Approximately 70 children joined us this year for VBS 2015. We studied the life of Elijah and saw over and over again God’s faithfulness in the life of this mighty prophet. The VBS players were better than ever as they opened each morning with a skit to reinforce the day’s lesson, aided by some amazing audiovisual effects. (Remember “Chariots of Fire”?)

As always, the children were very attentive and demonstrated a good understanding of what was being taught. Especially noteworthy was the performance of the 2nd and 3rd grade class during Quiztron, a game played at the end of the week in which the children buzz in answers to questions from the lessons. The score was neck and neck throughout the whole game, so the sudden death tiebreaker question was for the 2 teams to go back and forth naming a minor prophet until one team missed, which was a real challenge because this was not even covered in the lessons. Amazingly, the teams tied even on that, because both teams knew all the minor prophets! (So ask yourself, as you smarter than a third grader?)

It’s always rewarding to read the children’s comments on what they learned. Some of their replies included:

“I learned about God’s power and grace.”

“I learned that Elijah proved that God is the one true God with the rain, widow, fire, etc.”

“I learned that I can trust God and He can do all things.”

“I learned about Elijah. God is sovereign. There are consequences for evil deeds.”

“God’s great power can do anything.”

“I learned about how Jezebel and Ahab did evil deeds and how Elijah trusted the Lord and obeyed Him. The Lord showed His power in this story!”

Once again, the Lord prepared fertile soil in the hearts of these children to receive His Word. Many thanks to all who had a part in this wonderful time of serving. As always, DVDs of the closing program are available from the media ministry.

Youth Group

The Believers Chapel Youth Ministry assists parents in evangelizing, teaching and equipping the next generation. Our purpose is to exhort every teen to glorify Christ through worship and fellowship, teach them submission to the authority of God’s Word, instruct them in using their spiritual gifts for ministry and instill in them a passion for the lost.

Youth Group starts at 7 p.m. every Wednesday night for Bible study and fellowship. Our Youth Director, Alan Angeles, is currently teaching through the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

July 3-9, 2016
Camp Regen, Glorieta, New Mexico

The Believers Chapel Youth Group joined 20 other youth groups from around the country in Glorieta, New Mexico to embark on a week of spiritual growth and evaluation at Camp Regen. Camp Regen is a yearly event organized by Grace Community Church for the purpose of preaching God’s Word to high school students in a camp setting. We were blessed to learn how to follow Christ, deny ourselves, submit to Him and to love and worship Him from many gifted teachers, including Dr. John MacArthur. We competed in some incredible games, met new friends, and suffered a few injuries along the way. Above all, we learned that Christ is worthy of following! Please pray that everyone in our our youth group would have a passion to run after Him all of their lives!

July 26-31, 2015

Fifteen members of the youth group and seven sponsors took part in the annual Believers Chapel summer youth group mission trip from Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31, 2015. We partnered with the youth group from Grace Baptist Church in Tahlequah, OK where Geoff Brown preaches. The two youth groups met at Olivet Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and were in charge of administering the children’s evangelistic ministry through a week-long VBS camp. The objective was to give the students the opportunity to minister and preach the gospel to unbelievers, to work with Christians from Oklahoma and above all, to glorify God.

We stayed on-site at the church with fewer creature comforts than we were used to (no AC at night and no hot water for showers during the day) but as someone on the trip said, “We didn’t come here to sleep.” That’s very true. We came to preach the gospel to children who may have never heard the truth about Christ before. Many of these children live in poverty, have only one parent at home or have one or more parents in prison. Many of the children didn’t behave in a manner that we were used to and it took some time to learn the best way to teach them. But when we did, it was very rewarding. They craved the loving attention we gave them and became attentive to the Word once they knew they could trust us. It was through lots of hugs and high fives that the Gospel was presented. Both youth groups organized all the music, games, crafts and most importantly Bible lessons for the whole week of VBS with only a little bit of help from the sponsors. It was a joy to see our youth take charge of the classroom and teach these precious children.

Our goal was that God would allow our youth the opportunity to “let their light shine” (Matthew 5:16 (Bible Gateway: NASB)” href=” 5:16 (Bible Gateway: NASB)” href=” 5:16&version=NASB” target=”_blank”>Matthew 5:16&version=NASB” target=”_blank”>Matthew 5:16 (Bible Gateway: NASB)” href=” 5:16&version=NASB” target=”_blank”>Matthew 5:16) through hard work, encouragement to other believers and evangelism. The Lord allowed us to be bold in our witness, to work hard and to have unity so that He could be glorified. It was a wonderful trip and I’m thankful I was able to be a part of it!
